Is it better to repair or replace an appliance?

If an appliance is more than halfway through its lifespan and the repair costs more than 50% of the price of a new one, you should consider replacing it. But if fixing it is less than half the cost of buying something new—and it's not that close to the end of its life—a repair is probably the better option.
